August 31, 2009 – BACKUS • CARRANZA, a Las Vegas, Nevada-based litigation law firm, proudly announced its selection for the third year in a row for inclusion in the highly competitive list of Super Lawyers. The firm also announced the selection of partner Edgar Carranza together with one of its senior associates, Shea A. Backus, as two of the publication’s 2009 Rising Stars. The publishers of Law & Politics and Super Lawyers annually produce the Super Lawyer list of “outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.” Rising Stars is its annual publication recognizing the top up-and-coming attorneys in the state -- those who are 40 years old or younger or who have been practicing for 10 years or less.
The firm’s senior partner, Leland Eugene Backus, who has been chief trial counsel or regional counsel in some of the largest complex cases in the country, including the MGM Grand Hotel fire litigation, DuPont Plaza Hotel Fire litigation, the PEPCON plant explosion, bone screw litigation and Kitec-fitting litigation was chosen for a third consecutive year as a Super Lawyer. Backus said, “The Super Lawyer organization’s stated objective is ‘to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource to assist attorneys and consumers in the search for legal counsel.’ We have been honored to be included in the association’s 2007 and 2008 Nevada Super Lawyers and Mountain States’ Super Lawyers and, more recently, in the 2009 Nevada and Mountain States selection.”
“We feel particularly honored by this recognition, in view of the stringent requirements for acceptance,” says Partner Edgar Carranza. Carranza represents individuals and corporations in the areas of professional liability defense, claims of employment discrimination/harassment and labor disputes before all administrative agencies and all state and federal courts.
